Some common questions answered.

What is a Battery ?
A battery is a portable source of energy.

What is the difference between a Cell and a Battery ?
Technically, a cell is the basic electrochemical unit that generates or stores electrical energy. Simply put, a cell is a single unit. When two or more electrochemical cells are electrically interconnected in an appropriate series/parallel arrangement to provide the required operating voltage and current levels it becomes a battery. Again simply put, when two or more cells are connected, they form a battery. Under common usage, the term "battery" is often also applied to a single cell.

What is a Dry Cell ?
A cell with immobilised electrolyte. The term "dry cell" is often used to describe the Leclanche cell.

What is an Anode ?
The electrode in an electrochemical cell where oxidation takes place. During discharge, the negative electrode of the cell is the anode. During charge, the situation reverses and the positive electrode of the cell is the anode.

What is a Cathode ?
The electrode in an electrochemical cell where reduction takes place. During discharge, the positive electrode of the cell is the cathode. During charge, the situation negative electrode of the cell is the cathode.

What are the different types of batteries ?
Batteries can be classified into
PRIMARY (non rechargeable), SECONDARY (rechargeable) &
PHYSICAL.
Examples are given below.

PRIMARY         Zinc Carbon (Zn C), Alkaline and Silver Oxide
SECONDARY    Lead acid and Nickel Cadmium varieties
PHYSICAL        Solar powered cells

What are the types of batteries manufactured by Nippo ?
Nippo manufactures the Zinc Carbon variety.

Nippo Heavy Duty Battery

What are the possible applications of Nippo batteries ?
Nippo batteries are popularly used in torch lights, transistors, radios, tape recorders, cameras and flashes, personal stereos, quartz wall clocks, calculators, TV remote controls, battery powered and remote controlled toys, hand held games, hearing aids etc.

What is the nominal voltage of a Zn C battery?
Nominal voltage of a battery is 1.SV. All Nippo batteries role out of the factory with more than the nominal voltage of 1.5 Volts.

What is Shelf Life ?
The duration of storage under specified conditions at the end of which a cell or battery still retains the ability to give a specified performance.
