Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. NBCL has a manufacturing collaboration with Matsushita for producing and distributing dry cell batteries and torches under the brand name "Nippo". This range of products is manufactured by the Nippo Battery Company Limited, India (NBCL). NBCL is the second largest battery manufacturer in India. It was incorporated in 1972 as a joint venture with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., of Japan, with the aim of bringing the world's best battery technology to the country.
Nippo has been a household name for batteries in India for close to 3.5 decades now. Its two factories at Nellore and Tada, both in the Southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, cater to the soft energy requirements in the country.
